ABOUT US
Here is who we are, our mission, vision, and cause.
Who We Are
Al-Shajar Al-Khadhar Organizationfor Environmental Protection (SKOEP) comprises dedicated volunteers committed to the preservation of the entire environmental spectrum. Our mission includes safeguarding wildlife in Iraq and the broader Middle East region, combating desertification and climate change, advocating for organic agriculture among farmers, protecting ecological systems, promoting clean energy resources, and advocating for responsible water consumption. However, the successful execution of these tasks necessitates collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, and the ongoing need for environmental awareness within the community is paramount.
We are a group of academic teachers and environment activists, and we strive to instill the valuesof a sustainable environment in local communities. Additionally, we actively engage with local and national authorities, urging them to enact laws and regulations that prioritize environmental well-being. Currently, SKOEP relies
on donations from its founders and dedicated members to support its initiatives.Mission
We collaborate closely with local communities and form partnerships with national and international organizations, as well as state agencies, to uphold environmental preservation. Our efforts include the proper disposal of waste, the promotion of clean energy resources, the establishment of sanctuaries for critically endangered species, and initiatives to reintroduce extinct ones.
Vision
We anticipate fostering a biodiverse environment in Mesopotamia by preserving the equilibrium of various ecosystems, safeguarding endangered species, working towards a sustainable environment, and adapting to climate changes.
Cause
Al-Shajar Al-Khadhar is committed to the afforestation and reforestation of trees, opposing the excavation of local orchards, and organizing local cleaning campaigns, and supporting wild animals to thrive in their natural habitats, including deserts, marshes, rivers, and forests. Our primary focus involves establishing protected sanctuaries for critically endangered species and reintroducing extinct species to their original habitats. We actively work against the recent increase in recreational animal shooting, address poaching and overhunting that endanger species in the wild. Additionally, we engage in rehabilitating, sheltering, and adopting orphaned and injured wildlife. Our mission also involves raising awareness and fostering compassion for animals within the Iraqi community, among public figures, and governmental officials.
